So to the end...

Teaching is over and people are departing Nanjing... above is a photo of our celebratory night out at all-you-can-eat-all-you-can-drink Teppanyaki restaurant last Saturday. It was a most fun night which led to much drunken dancing and a lot of pain the following day (or two). I actually can't really remember saying goodbye to most people, but maybe that's the nicest way to do it. I remember having a similar approach in Hong Kong at its big ending...

Iain however had to teach until today, and so we are a bit behind in the leaving trend. We are in fact now leaving on Monday rather than tonight as originally planned, and cutting out Chongqing as a result. The weather in Nanjing is currently so bad that any more time spent in a rainy, humid and polluted city would probably not be the best start to our trip anyway, so it is so long, farewell, etc to Chongqing...

Instead we are heading directly for Chengdu and panda territory, so wish us luck. No real updates on the Tibetan areas blocked off, so fingers crossed for a bit of luck there too! I am still most excited about Xinjiang and the end of our trip and so cannot wait to get going. We are all packed and ready, I've had my goodbye dinner at SEU and Iain has said his adios to Nanwai... the time is nigh!

As we get started on our adventure we won't be able to get on any foreign websites, and so this (sparce and pretty lacking) blog will have to come to its end. See you all back in Europe on August 9th!!
